None of This Is True: Book Review
Hi friends! Today I’m reviewing None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell!
My GoodReads Rating: 4.5/5 stars
None of This Is True is a dark and suspenseful thriller centered on two women who learn they’re birthday twins through a chance encounter. Their unlikely meeting turns into a podcast in which shared confidences become the motive for murder. The short chapters are interspersed with a Netflix documentary and podcast excerpts, making the book fast-paced and exciting.
Josie is odd and a trainwreck. She’s married to a man significantly older than her and has a past life filled with abuse. On her 45th birthday, Josie decides to begin significant life changes. It all starts with a chance encounter at a restaurant, where she meets Alix, who is also celebrating her 45th birthday.
Alix Summer is famous for her podcasts, featuring inspiring stories of accomplished women. Alix and her podcast catch Josie’s attention, and she proposes to be a guest on Alix’s podcast to share her life story. Alix agrees because she is curious about this strange woman. They become intertwined in more ways than one as Josie lets Alix into her life and history through the podcast. The more Alix discovers about Josie and her past, the more she worries this decision is a terrible mistake.
As the podcast continues, alarming facts reveal themselves. Josie’s story is dubious, and it makes you question her reliability. The ending gives the reader some authority over how they perceive the ending and the story. The ending seemed sudden and left me with some mixed emotions. Even if you don’t love an ambiguous ending like this, you will fly through this book and never want to put it down.
