Just for the Summer: Book Review

Hi y’all! Today I’m reviewing Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez!

GoodReads Rating: 4/5 stars

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez is a heartwarming rom-com and the perfect beach read. It’s deeper than I expected, and Abby does a great job writing about delicate topics and characters. It’s written in two POVs, giving us a glimpse into two stories that merge into one. I almost stopped reading because I hated the beginning so much. However, I ended up loving the book! Emma and Justin have amazing chemistry. The setting and side characters make it all come together.

The book starts with a Reddit thread written by Justin. He thinks he’s a good luck charm because every woman he dates finds their significant other immediately after they break up. Emma, a traveling sales nurse, stumbles upon the thread and messages Justin because she believes she has the same luck. She messages him, and they start talking. Justin suggests they make a dating pact to see if their luck can cancel each other out.

Emma and her friend Maddy decide to take a six-week nursing position and spend the summer at a cottage in Minnesota. Emma finds herself drawn to Justin’s warmth and kindness, while Justin is captivated by Emma’s passion and determination. As the summer draws to a close, she must confront if she’s willing to set roots somewhere and fully open up to someone.

Abby Jimenez’s writing is engaging, heartfelt, and infused with humor. Her ability to create relatable and multidimensional characters makes the story come alive. The picturesque setting of the lakeside town is vividly described, immersing readers in the beauty of the environment. The dialogue is witty and authentic, capturing the characters’ personalities and evolving relationship.

Whether lounging by the beach or curled up in a cozy nook, Just for the Summer is the perfect book. Abby Jimenez has delivered a captivating and memorable story that will leave readers with a warm heart.

Thanks for reading!

Love, Leah
