The Best of 2023

Hi y’all! Today I’m ranking my faves of the year: tv shows, books, and music!

This past year was one of the most life-changing years of my life. I graduated, got married, moved to a new city, and started working full-time as a boutique manager. I am so grateful for these experiences and everyone’s love and support!

TV Shows:

3. Lessons In Chemistry: This show is an adaptation of the book Lessons in Chemistry, one of my favorite books. Brie Lawson played the role of Elizabeth Zott perfectly, a woman in the 1960s pursuing her passion for science. The whole narrative of the show is thought-provoking. Lessons in Chemistry combines the excitement of science with a love story, making it a must-watch for anyone!

2. Gilmore Girls: This show is not new by any means, but Jon and I really enjoyed rewatching this show this year. Gilmore Girls is easily my favorite comfort show.

1. Young Sheldon: If you know me, this may not come as a shock to you. I’m late to the bandwagon, but Young Sheldon was my favorite show this year. It’s so wholesome and funny. There isn’t a thing I would change. I can’t wait for season 6, but I’m sad it’s the final season.

Books:

3. The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden: This book brought an edge-of-your-seat experience that made it hard to put down. McFadden devised an exciting suspense novel that left me wanting to read more books for her in the new year.

2. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros: This book was an amazing first installment to Yarros’ Empyrean series, making it a must-read. I’m not a fantasy reader, so I was shocked by how much I loved it. However, I’m almost through the second book in the series, and it’s not my favorite. Iron Flame is about 700 pages but could have easily been 500. The plot is confusing and all over the place. Unfortunately, it has started to damper my opinion of Fourth Wing. I loved Fourth Wing when I read it, though, so it deserves a spot in my top three.

1. Demon Copperhead by Barbra Kingsolver: It’s a moving story that I couldn’t put down. I read this book towards the beginning of the year, and it sparked my interest in learning about life in modern-day Appalachia. I loved watching Demon grow up, although his journey was gut-wrenching. I couldn’t recommend this book more.

Albums:

3. Subject To Change by Kelsea Ballerini

2. 1989 (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift: The rerelease of this album reminded me how much I loved this album when it first came out. Most people associate this album with the overplayed songs like Shake It Off and Blank Space, but the lesser known ones are incredible. I Know Places, Clean, and Wonderland were always my favorite tracks. This album, in my opinion, has some of the best vault tracks of the rereleases, aside from Red.

1. Gettin Old by Luke Combs: No notes. A masterpiece.

Songs:

3. In Your Love by Tyler Childers

2. Dear Reader by Taylor Swift

1. Take You With Me by Luke Combs

Let me know what your favorites were!

Thanks for reading!

Love, Leah
